10 Things We Learned from Gov Ball's Reddit AMA

posted by Laura Baker-Finch on January 23, 2014

New York City -- At 2pm yesterday afternoon, the Governors Ball crew took to Reddit to answer your questions - the good, the bad, and the strange.

For those not familiar with the online community, Reddit is a social news website where registered users can submit content in the form of words, videos, photos, and links. The site is divided into subreddits that span genres from "World News," "Gaming," and "Aww" to the NSFW feeds "WTF," "Girls Gone Wild," and "NSFW_gif."

One such subreddit is "IAMA", where celebrities, organizations, and interesting people of all backgrounds open themselves and say "Ask Me Anything" to the Internet at large. This, my friends, is where we found ourselves at 2pm yesterday afternoon.

At first, we weren't sure whether the questions would be pertinent or irrelevant; Reddit users, along with the rest of the Internet, aren't always known for their compliance with niceties. But after two hours of trolling the page, Gov Ball proved capable of offering help, hints, and hilarities to most questions asked.

Since you can receive internship advice from your school advisor, and transportation tips from Gov Ball's website and our guide, we left their helpful advice out of our round-up in favor of tidbits you may not know if you hadn't taken part in the AMA.

Here is what we learned:

1. The Gov Ball crew's most anticipated artists are:

2. Gov Ball tried, but failed, to book:

3. The Strokes basically booked themselves on this year's lineup.

4. Gov Ball won't have holograms, but they explained the Biggie and Tupac picture anyway.

5. If you need recommendations around NYC, Gov Ball recommends Cultivora (duh).

6. We're not the only ones that thought the lineup hinted at onstage collaborations.

7. Turf War, The Strokes, and Kanye West are great people.

8. There is such a thing as a dumb question.

9. Despite what we thought in our interview, fans want jam bands.

10. There might be a Gov Ball live stream.

In the end, we were left with some helpful info, a couple hints, a few laughs, one unanswered question we were dying to have answered, and a lesson learned courtesy of Outkast.
