Austin, TX -- It was announced yesterday that Samsung Galaxy would be hosting a four-day showcase this year at SXSW with Jay Z and Kanye West kicking it off Wednesday night. This will be the first full concert from the Watch the Throne collaborators since June 2012.
Joining them at the Samsung Concert Series are Janelle Monae and Gary Clark Jr. on Thursday, Broken Bells on Friday, and Cut Copy and Holy Ghost! on Saturday. With the iTunes Festival featuring acts like Coldplay and Kendrick Lamar as well as Lady Gaga playing the Doritos stage, this showcase demonstrates the trend of SXSW to seek more corporate sponsorship and major label activity.
This isn't the first time Kanye has shown up in Austin practically unannounced. In 2009, he unexpectedly stopped by the FADER Fort to promote his G.O.O.D. Music record label and in 2012 made a special guest appearance on stage with 2 Chainz. Jay Z is also no stranger to SXSW, as he played the AmEx Sync Show in 2012.
Tickets to the shows are available first to Samsung Galaxy owners with the remaining ones raffled off to SXSW Platinum and Music Badge holders as well as Music Festival and Artist Wristband holders.
