NYC's Afro-Punk Festival Completes Lineup
Exciting news for Afropunkers: TV On The Radio is set to headline the 8th annual festival to be held (for free!) August 25-26. After going on an hiatus last year due to Hurricane Irene, the Afro-Punk Festival is back and delivering some of the best in music, food, and culture. Returning to Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park, the initial lineup this year featured a great mix of performers like Erykah Badu feat. the Cannibanoids, Gym Class Heroes, and Janelle Monae. However, this was apparently only the start.
The festival that the New York Times describes as putting “rock and rebellion squarely in the category of African-American music,” has now added these names to the final musical lineup: TV On The Radio, Alice Smith, Sinkane, Flatbush Zombies, Radkey, Joe Jordan Experiment (JJX), Purple Ferdinand, and DJS The Supasonics, Grits and Biscuits, DJ Pete Smoke Les, Stack-Aly, Roofeo, and VENUS X GHE20GOTH1K. In addition to the wicked lineup, the free Brooklyn festival will feature over a dozen of NYC's delicious food trucks. Get your appetite ready for some Rickshaw Dumpling, Mexicue, Gorilla Cheese Truck, and many more. For more information, visit the Afro-Punk Fest website.
