Postcard: Katie Curran at Gentlemen of the Road

posted by Marjana Jaidi on August 06, 2012

Welcome to our new series, in which friends and readers send us digital postcards from music festivals around the world. The first one comes from my dear friend, Katie Curran, who was at the Portland stop of Mumford & Sons' touring festival, Gentlemen of the Road, this weekend with her fiancé, Cavan Hallman. Here's what she had to say:

Hello Cultivora!

It's 4pm- Haim's set was awesome, and Apache Relay has just finished here on this beyond beautiful waterfront in Portland, Maine. Cavan and I are in full swing making friends and kissing babies. The gents of the road picked a mindblowingly beautiful town, and the East Promenade park is enjoying the most folks its ever seen- 16,000 within the gates and thousands more lining victorian houses outside. GOTR Portland is repping some great festival highlights- the all ages, gen admission grounds have food from all over the local scene (overpriced lobster though, so you're better going to the water later). Head into the 21+ beer tented area for beverages curated by Gritty McDuff's and Shipyard brewing companies at the NYC relief of $6 each. Lines are as festival lines are, but the flags, the water, the weather and the friendly folks make it just fine. I love a festival where I'm allowed to sit my short self on a hill with a blanket, full view of the beautifully flagged main stage and well within sight of the second stage, just to the right. Oh, and Reggie Watts is our MC.

Next stopovers on the Gentlemen of the Road Tour will hit VA, IL and CA- if you're lucky enough to have snagged your passport, you'll have a lovely day ahead of you. I want Portland to keep us. Quit being so purdy, place!

Time to pick up a lavender lemonade mead and think about sandwich plans. After parties being boasted about all over town for tonight- we'll grab our bikes from the valet port (another perk) enjoy a ride along the water again before midnight.

Catch you later, New York! Maccabees are on now with Dawes, St. Vincent and of course Mumford to come. I'll be squealing with glee- Cavan too.

Xoxo
Katie
