Introducing The Great GoogaMooga

posted by Laura Baker-Finch on March 11, 2012

On May 19 and 20, much to the delight of food lovers, wine connoisseurs, and music fans, The Great GoogaMooga will debut in Brooklyn's historic Prospect Park. The Great GoogaMooga is brought to you by Superfly Presents, the same masterminds behind Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. This amusement park of food and drink will host approximately 75 food vendors, 35 brewers, 30 winemakers, and 20 live music performances over the span of two days.

The festival has announced the initial line-up of food vendors that will be featured in the park, including New York favorites Baohaus, Luke's Lobster, Momofuku Milk Bar, Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, The Spotted Pig, and DBGB Kitchen and Bar. The full initial list can be viewed HERE. Make sure to check back for more additions - maybe your favorite NYC vendor will make the cut.

These carefully chosen vendors will be divided into pavilions based on theme, so you can plan your meals based on the cuisine you crave. So far, GoogaMooga has announced pavilions under the headers The Hamburger Experience, The Pizza Experience, and The Sweet Experience - all pretty self-explanatory. However, there will also be a Hamegeddon tent dedicated to the pig, an UrBarn Experience tent dedicated to nutrition, sustainability, and eating locally, a Restaurant 101 tent for the professionally-minded, and The Market tent for artisanal foods and gourmet food trucks.

The GoogaMooga beer tasting pavilion will be modeled after the tents at the most renowned beer celebration in the world - Oktoberfest. Garret Oliver (of Brooklyn Brewery) has curated a selection of brewmasters, domestic beers, and foreign beers, separated into 'experiences' by type - The Lupulin, The Darkness, The Farmhouse, It's Complicated, and The Session. Wander through this pavilion for an experience that is sure to be both enlightening and entertaining.

If beer isn't your desired beverage, head over to the wine-tasting tent. Here, you can sample over 100 wines from around the world carefully curated by legendary sommelier Paul Grieco. He and his team of top New York sommeliers will be available to guide guests through the chosen wines. This tent will also feature the people behind the wines, including winemakers, importers, and region representatives - so you can learn a few tricks of the trade while getting your drink on.

While there haven't been any artist announcements, The Great Googa Mooga promises an eclectic mix of national and local artists across various genres. We'll keep you updated as more music information becomes available.

If two days of food, drinks, and music still has you on the fence, wait until you hear the best part: it's free. That's right, FREE! All you have to do is register for a ticket good for you and 3 of your friends. There is also an Extra Mooga option for an all-inclusive, paid-for experience for $249.50. The Extra Mooga is like a festival within the festival, including exclusive entertainment from Aziz Ansari and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. Tickets will be available starting Thursday, March 15 at noon EST from The Great GoogaMooga ticket page.
