Welcome to August, the last full month of summer and its festival season. End it with a bang with these festivals, announcements, and guides.
FestivalsAugust kicks off strong with a weekend packed with festivals from Chicago's Lollapalooza, Osheaga in Montreal, Pickathon right outside of Portland, the UK's Camp Bestival, and LA's HARD Summer.
But the fun doesn't end there. The following weekend sees the fruition once again of the Scandenavian Trifecta: Flow, Way Out West, and Øya in Helsinki, Gothenburg, and Oslo, respectively. Stateside, Outside Lands brings food, wine, and music back to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Mid-month slows down in the US, though Belgium's Pukkelpop and the UK's V Festival provide plenty to keep festivalgoers satiated. The following weekend sees the return of twin festivals Reading and Leeds as well as Paris' Rock en Seine, Brooklyn's Afropunk, and LA's FYF Fest, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary that week.
August will end as strongly as it began with Labor Day Weekend packed with Croatia's Outlook, Electric Zoo in New York City, Salisbury's End of the Road, Chicago's North Coast, Seattle's Bumbershoot, and Jay-Z's Made in America.
Features and AnnouncementsThe first day of August saw the official opening of SXSW's 2014 edition, which means this month you can submit applications and register for badges for the festival's Music, Film, and Interactive components.
You should stay tuned with us this month for coverage of Osheaga, FYF Fest, Bumbershoot, and Electric Zoo.
Festival GuidesAs our Summer festival guides become archived until they're revamped for their respective 2014 editions, we begin to quickly roll out our Fall Festival Guides. This August, you can expect a debut guide to CBGB Festival, taking place around NYC this October, as well as revamped guides for Treasure Island in San Francisco and Voodoo in New Orleans.
