Afropunk Fest Divulges After Dark Details
Brooklyn, New York -- Afropunk organizers will introduce the festival's first After Dark Series next weekend, taking place in various venues throughout Brooklyn's Fort Greene neighborhood. Although the fest is scheduled for August 24-25 in Commodore Barry Park, the After Dark Series will start the party early, kicking off August 23 with a screening of Finding the Funk with Nelson George.
The inaugural After Dark Series will feature pop-up performances in an intimate setting, as well as celebrity DJ sets, comedy shows, film screenings, art installations, story slams, and drink specials courtesy of Absolut and Grolsch. The latter will host two "Green Light District" bar crawls as well as 1992-themed dance party in conjunction with INKed Magazine. Head to Afropunk's official website for a full listing of After Dark events, and scroll down to view the fest's full lineup. While the majority of events are open to the public, some require you to purchase tickets in advance, so be sure to check ahead!
In addition to the After Dark Series, Afropunk will also host a Red Bull Sound Select stage, curated by Afropunk, Brooklyn Vegan, Brooklyn Bodega, and East Village Radio. The music initiative provides emerging artists with a chance at career-launching opportunites, and slated performers for this year's fest include LE1F, Pyyramids, Sunny Gang, and Meatloaf Muzik.
Although entry to Afropunk is free, you can skip the line with V-VIP or a Fast Track Pass. V-VIP Passes are currently on sale, starting at $150 for a single day pass. While a two-day pass will cost you $275, V-VIP includes exclusive parking, V-VIP access to the park, front of house viewing, private restrooms, access to After Dark events, cocktails by Absolut, exclusive gifts, and an on-site concierge.
