  • With less than a week until BPM kicks off in Playa del Carmen, we've been busying ourselves with last-minute trip preparations. Lucky for you, we've compiled an extensive Survival Guide to help make your trip efficient and stress-free. Click through the gallery for the Preflight Checklist portion of our Survival Guide, and be sure to view or download the Official BPM Travel Guide for the full Survival Guide, which also includes a packing list, tips on health & safety, and Spanish 101 primer.

  • Download the Mobile App

The official BPM app gives you access to the entire list of scheduled events and performers, plus the option to create a custom schedule. Also included is a built- in map that highlights Playa’s venues, shops, and hotels. Download: iPhone | Android

  • Remember Your Passport

This may be a no brainer, but you need a passport to go abroad. don’t forget to make copies of your passport and id and keep them separate from the originals, just in case.

Travel in style with these italian Neon passport holders. $43, graphicimage.com

  • Notify Your Bank

Contact your bank and credit card company so they know to expect purchases from a foreign country and don’t freeze your accounts.

  • Upgrade Your Phone Plan

Look into short-term, international plans and roaming options before you leave the country. Alternatively, just turn off your data as soon as you land and stick to WiFi to avoid outrageous fees.

  • Secure Your Luggage

Even if you’re only bringing a carry on, don’t forget to add luggage tags. If you’re an overpacker, consult your airline about baggage fees, they could be cheaper purchased online and in advance.

The Burton Wheelie Sub travel bag helps overpackers avoid overweight fees by splitting in two, and comes with a lifetime warranty. $319.95, burton.com

  • Exchange Currency

There is an exchange house at the Cancún airport, but, for better rates, exchange your currency at local banks or before you leave for Mexico. Check with your bank about international fees so your January statement doesn’t surprise you.

  • Buy Your Tickets

Whether it’s for a lone party or the full ride, buy your tickets in advance. Event prices may go up or even sell out if you leave this to the last minute. When claiming your wristband in Playa, you’ll need the ID that matches the payment.

    FAN WISDOM:

“Go ahead and SPLURGE! Buy the VIP ticket to the festival. You can go in and out of all the bars at your convenience. Very worthwhile.” - Jen Wettlaufer

“Make sure you get full access wristband because the lines for the events are long.” - Alan Acosta

“Last year we didn’t get passes and I feel that if we had bought them, we would have visited more clubs.” - Natalie Von Hegedus
