  • New York City -- After checking out Panama Wedding and Basic Vacation at Bowery Ballroom, we let The Deli Magazine dictate the rest of our Wednesday night of CMJ Music Marathon. The NYC-based, local-scene dedicated magazine took over Rockwood Music Hall's three stages, treating those who squeezed into the venue to performances from Sleepy Kitty, Oh Honey, Emmy Wildwood, Joy Kills Sorrow, and Rocket & The Ghost.

Click through for our highlights from the showcase.

St. Louis/Chicago-based Sleepy Kitty, the side project-turned-full time gig of Paige Brubeck and Evan Sult, performed above the expectations that come with a two-piece band. Brubeck looped her vocals live, creating girl-group harmonies of a '90s era choir to surge above her reverberated guitar. Sults, on the other edge of the stage, can barely remain seated before his drums, often playing hunched over the kit standing or leaning against Rockwood's plush red walls.

The duo played tracks from their previously released EPs and full-length, while giving us a taste of Projection, to be released later this year.

Emmy Wildwood combined sexy songwriting, operatic gestures, and pop tendencies on stage Wednesday night, an entrancing combination though one I couldn't help feel was missing a drummer. Remnants of Wildwood's grunge rock occasionally show through her danceable dream pop.

Mitchy Collins is no stranger to the music industry, lending his songwriting chops to The Kin, Outasight, and his own solo projects, but it is in partnering with Danielle Bouchard that brought the crowds to Rockwood.

The Huffington Post hailed Oh Honey's debut single, "Be Okay," as "the perfect way to end Summer." But, after a set full of hits just as catchy and sweet as their premiere, it's clear Oh Honey will weather the seasons.
