New York City -- After a tragic 2013 installment and many months of lobbying, Electric Zoo Festival has been approved to return to its home on Randall's Island Park this Labor Day Weekend, August 29-31.

After two drug-related deaths led to the cancellation of EZoo's third and final day, organizers of the electronic dance music festival have announced plans to crack down on drug use and create new safety measures for the festival's 2014 installment. However, despite these announcements, it still took a while for city officials to approve the necessary site permits.

Before the official word on the festival's return, EZoo promotors Mike Bindra and Laura DePalma gave The Wall Street Journal an inside look at their planned safety measures.

Drug-sniffing dogs, thorough pat-downs, and undercover security officers are among the promised new safety measures. These fairly common precautions will be paired with a later festival start time to reduce festivalgoer's exposure to the sun and an anti drug public-service announcement video delivered by DJs, which will be required to watch in order to activate the festival wristbands.

Amnesty bins, where fans can discard drugs and alcohol without penalty before being searched at the festival gates, have also been considered by DePalma and Bindra.

SFX Entertainment, which bought Bindra and DePalma's Made Events promotion company in October, have stood behind the new safety measures despite the several hundreds of thousands of dollars they will add to the cost of the festival. SFX has also stood behind the advisory board of security consultants, doctors, and DJs that was set up after two attendees in their 20s died after taking ecstasy at Electric Zoo 2013 and plans to extend the board's recommendations to all of its festivals.

Pre-sale for Electric Zoo 2014 will begin April 29 at 10am EDT. At this time, GA 3-Day Passes with Transportation will be on sale for $289 while supplies last. Once these are gone, the price will be raised to $369. To obtain a pre-sale code, sign up for an account

No lineup has been announced for the festival's 2014 installment. In the meantime, check out the official 2014 Trailer, below.
