Festival Spotlight: Piknic Electronik

Do you love the pulsating sound of electronic dance music under a hot summer sun? Because this Victoria Day weekend - a Federal holiday where Canadians honor the late Queen Vic's b-day by ditching work to eat lots of BBQ - Montréal's Piknic Electronik is back with its weekly programming of innovative electronic music.

Every Sunday from May 20th to September 30th, Montréal's Parc Jean-Drapeau, just minutes from the city's downtown core, welcomes families, friends, and electronic music lovers of every persuasion to dance, eat, and be very merry.

Piknic Electronik - defined by its eclectic programming and yet celebrated for its culture of unity - will bring the good vibrations this summer with two stages that will showcase a variety of electronic music genres, from classic house to techno, ambient, grime, etc. The festival's ultimate mission: democratizing the world of electronic music by presenting artists that represent local and international electronic scenes.

This year, the festival will introduce the Mangeoire, the perfect picnic food haven just along the path between Piknic Electronik's two stages. The traditional casse-croûte du Piknic will relocate to this spot and continue to serve hot dogs, burgers, and crepes. But there will also be delicious tacos available for purchase, courtesy of Grumman 78, savory pulled-pork sandwich from Pas d'cochon dans mon salon, and fresh fruit from Fruixi.

This Sunday (May 20th) the MOOG Stage will feature a showcase curated by No. 19, a Toronto based label run by DJs and producers Jonny White and Nitin.

On the GURU stage, Montréal's Rosé crew, known for a "low light late night bass ambience" at their eponymous weekly at Montréal's Blizzarts, will take the stage for an eclectic set of new bass music.

And for an extra special long weekend treat, Piknic Electronik will offer a second installment of electro-studded dance music on Monday, May 21st.

Check out Piknik's programming to stay tunned to their hot summer Sundays.

Piknik Electronik will also be curating special events and stages for MUTEK and Osheaga. Happy long summer days!
