Forum Programming Announced for Splendour In The Grass 2014
Splendour in the Grass 2013 via the festival
Byron Bay, Australia -- The Forum programming for the 2014 installment of Splendour in the Grass has been released, and there's a lot to take in. The festival is hosting panel discussions, film screenings, and late-night comedy sets.
You can expect a lot of cool keynote speeches and discussions on the panel side of things, including an interview with environmentalist Paul Gilding of TED Talk-fame and a Q&A with Tony Jones, the Australian news anchor.
From there, Splendour takes on the issue of whistleblowing, as the festival is featuring two panels with Thomas Drake, a former NSA officer-turned whistleblower, as well as a screening of the documentary Silenced that deals with his espionage trial.
Additionally, you should check out the Women of Letters panel, in which Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES, Courtney Barnett, and other artists, recite their "Letters to the Song They Wish They'd Written," so we might get to hear some covers of panel-members' favorite songs.
The Forum is also featuring its first ever Twilight Film Festival, which will screen three documentaries. The first, In Bob We Trust, will feature a Q&A afterwards with the film's producer Richard Lowenstein and the subject, Father Bob Maguire. The second, How to Lose Jobs and Alienate Girlfriends, follows the life of first-time filmmaker Tom Meadmore (who will also host a Q&A after the screening) as his girlfriend and boss attempt to become successful musicians. The last deals with George Rrurrambu Burarrawanga, the Aboriginal performer who who combined rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, pop, and traditional culture to raise awareness about Indigenous contemporary issues.
Finally, the Late Night Comedy Club is making its inaugural debut at the Forum this year. Lasting three hours a night from Thursday to Sunday, the venue will feature comedians Tom Ballard, Matt Okine, Josh Earl, Claire Hooper, and more.
Splendour in the Grass will take place July 25-27 and is currently sold out.
