Music Monday Playlist: CMJ 2014
The Kills via the artist
New York City -- CMJ Music Marathon returns to New York City this week, and brings with it not only great conference programming but also 1,300+ bands performing at various showcases and gigs around the city. For the most part, our Music Monday Playlists cover every act on the bill, but a playlist with over a hundred songs - much less a thousand - is pretty intimidating. That's why we've whittled it down to our favorite 44 artists hitting CMJ this year.
We're starting with the more established acts at the festival, kicking things off with The Kills, Cold War Kids, Bombay Bicycle Club, and Slowdive. From there you'll find tracks from the acts that have really come to prominence during the last couple of years, like "Avant Gardener" from Courtney Barnett, "How Long Have You Known" from DIIV, and "Stay Gold" from First Aid Kit.
After these tracks, we took a turn towards artists who are just hitting their stride and are on the verge of breaking. You'll find local gems like Hunters, Arc Iris, and PARLOUR TRICKS, as well as bands from a locally favorite label Exploding in Sound Records like Porches., Krill, Ovlov, Kal Marks, and Palehound.
Feel free to stream our playlist below or open it in a new window. If you're prone to procrastination and haven't dealt with your CMJ registration, you can still get a full badge ($525 for adults; $340 for students) or show pass ($140) via the festival website. Before you head to NYC this year, be sure to check out our CMJ Music Marathon Guide for travel tips, festival insights, and the best spots to eat, sleep, shop, party, and explore around the city.
Happy streaming and we'll see you at CMJ 2014!
