Music Monday Playlist: Flow Festival 2014
Janelle Monáe at Flow Festival 2011 by Marjana Jaidi
Helsinki, Finland -- We started curating this playlist before our trip to Helsinki was solidified, and it took on a whole new life once our Flow Festival credentials were approved and our flights booked.
Originally the idea was to include one song from every artist on the lineup so festivalgoers could get a taste for everyone they have the chance to see - a pretty standard practice in our Music Monday series. Unfortunately, we encountered a pretty large swath of the bill that were unavailable on Spotify, at least on its US version. So, instead, we left comprehension behind in favor of curation.
Our Flow Festival playlist includes 50 songs we plan to use this week to pump ourselves up and soundtrack our long trip oversees. It starts with some big hits from the headliners (Outkast's "B.O.B.," The National's "I Need My Girl," "Mathematics" by Mos Def, just to name a few), before delving into the very danceable Janelle Monáe and MØ, throwbacks from Manic Street Preachers, Neneh Cherry, Slint, and Slowdive, and a few of our favorite tracks of 2014 from Jungle, How to Dress Well, Mac DeMarco, Little Dragon, and Real Estate.
The playlist also touches upon some artists we weren't previously familiar with, but can't wait to catch in person this coming weekend, like Sin Cos Tan, Eetu Floor, Noah Kin, Astrid Swan, and Siinai.
Stream the playlist below or open it in a new browser to listen on-the-go. And, speaking of on-the-go, don't forget to check out our Festival Guide to Flow Festival 2014 if you're on your way to Helsinki for the festival. It's complete with festival information, travel tips, and recommendations of how to spend your free time in Helsinki.
Happy streaming and we'll see you at Flow!
