New York -- Kitama Cahill-Jackson, grandson of  Pete Seeger, has planned Seeger Fest, a series of free concerts and events to commemorate the late folk singer, who died in January, and his wife, Toshi, who died last July.

Seeger Fest will include concerts, a film screening, a photo exhibition, and a memorial service to take place in both New York City and several sites in the Hudson Valley, where Seeger focused his ecological campaign.

The festival will kick off at Pier 46 on the Hudson River in Manhattan on July 17 for a screening of the 2007 documentary, Pete Seeger: The Power of Song. Seeger Fest will continue the following day at Poughkeepsie's Bardavon Opera House for a public memorial service, at which the Seeger's family, friends, and musicians will share stories and music.

On July 19, the festival will bring about a daylong celebration across New York. In the Hudson Valley, there will be music and a pot luck dinner at the Beacon Sloop Club and square dancing at Olivebridge's Ashokan Center. Closer to the city, there will be food and row boating at Rocking the Boat in the Bronx in addition to an exhibition of films and photographs by the deceased couple at El Taller Latino Americano on the Upper West Side.

Seeger Fest will merge with Lincoln Center Out of Doors on July 20 for a tribute to the Seegers at Damrosch Park. David Amram, Tom Chapin and the Chapin Sisters, Holly Near, Peter Yarrow, and Dan Zanes are among the musicians playing the tribute. Some of these musicians, along with Amanda Palmer, Anti-Flag Acoustic, and Steve Earle, will also appear the following night, July 21, for New Songs of Justice: An Evening Honoring Pete Seeger as part of Central Park's SummerFest.
