Skate and Surf 2014 Updates: Lineup Changes and Venue Switches
New Found Glory via the Band
Asbury Park, NJ --- Skate and Surf Festival has revealed that New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio will headline day two of the fest, joining previously announced headliners Circa Survive and Midtown.
Also added to the lineup were Light Years, Intervals, and What's Eating Gilbert. This follows last week's additions of Kid Ink and Jake Miller. Scroll down to see the current lineup.
Initial posters for the festival listed "Linc's Special Guest" for day one and question marks indicating a surprise headliner for day two. It is unclear whether the new additions are either the special guest or surprise headliner, but "Linc's Special Guest" and the question marks in the headlining spot have both been removed from new posters.
A few bands were also removed from the lineup last week, allegedly due to scheduling conflicts with the May 17-18 festival. Included were Sylar and I the Breather, who will both be on tour with For the Fallen Dreams during Skate and Surf weekend; Black Breath, who do not have any shows announced for either day of the festival, but will start a tour in Baltimore the following week; and Bears and Motorcycles, who have no scheduled shows on May 17 or 18th.
Most peculiar of all the removals, though, was day-two headliner DMX. The rapper does not appear to have any direct scheduling conflicts, but according to his website he will play Putrock Festival in Belgium on May 10, a show at Ballroom in Oslo, Norway on May 23, and one at Botanikos in Athens, Greece on May 24.
The festival also announced a venue change last week. Originally scheduled to take place at the Middletown Sports Complex in Middletown, Skate and Surf will now be held oceanfront in Asbury Park, New Jersey, the location where the festival began in 2001.
Skate and Surf changed locations last year, too, moving from the Plaza Green at iPlay America in Freehold, to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, both in New Jersey. That last-minute venue change meant disappointment for some fans, who reported that the festival was a logistical failure. Hopefully this year's move to Asbury Park will go more smoothly.
The venue change seems to go along with the theme of taking the fest back to its roots. With the Asbury Park location and a lineup including such early-2000s pop-punkers and emo bands as Midtown, New Found Glory, Circa Survive, The Early November, and Hidden in Plain View, the 2014 festival might just be a time warp back to 2004. If you're interested, weekend passes and single-day tickets are already on sale.
