Denver, Colorado -- Beatport, the online provider of music, tools, and resources for DJs, has partnered with The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase to present Denver Music Hack Day, which will take place July 20-21.
Music Hack Day is an international series in which programmers, developers, designers, and artists join to "conceptualize, build, and demo the future of music." Music services BEATPORT, Spotify, SoundCloud, Bitcount, Rdio, The Echo Nest, and more will open their APIs (application programming interface) to allow participants to use their technologies to create the best demo they can in the allotted amount of time. Attending hackers - there are around 100 expected - will be permitted to develop any variety of software, hardware, mobile, web, instruments, and art, as long as it is related to music. Music Hack Day is an opportunity for attendees to network and compare ideas, and the event has also helped attendees get jobs after impressing future employers with their coding skills. Hackers will present their demos following the second day of the event.
The event will be held at Denver's Galvanize, a newly-launched startup community gathering place and co-working establishment. Music Hack Day is an official event of the 13th Annual Denver Post Underground Music Showcase, a four-day fest scheduled for July 18 - July 21. This year's fest will host more than 400 performances on 20 stages, including Cults, Lord Huron, and Mudhoney . Tickets are still available for the event; a General Admission Four-Day Wristband will cost you $35, while VIP Badges are on sale for $80 and include access to the Late-Night Lounge (which has complimentary food and drinks), and expedited entry. Single day wristbands will be on sale day-of for $25. All Music Hack Day registrants will receive a free pass for Friday's performances.
