SnowBall 2012

SnowBall, dubbed, “Snowchella,” debuted in March 2011 and proved to be quite a success in its first year. Set in Colorado’s Vail Valley, SnowBall is a unique winter experience ‐ a music festival and ski/snowboard getaway, rolled into one. Artists run the gamut from electronic and dance to indie and alternative. Whether you are a winter sports fan or a music enthusiast, Snow Ball provides the perfect harmony of both.

How do I get to and from the festival?
If you are staying in Vail, ECO Transit can take you to and from the festival, located in Avon. You can also drive to the event; parking costs $10 per day, and is located approximately one mile from the festival. From there, you can either walk or take the Avon bus ,ECO Transit. Note that there is no overnight parking, and cars left overnight will be towed. The only exceptions are RVs, which can park overnight with a $75 weekend parking pass.
-
How do I get around during the event?
Even though the festival takes place in the snowy mountains, you will still need to do a fair amount of walking between stages and tents, so be sure to wear shoes or boots meant for walking in snow or ice.
-
What time does it start and end?
Doors open at 1pm with shows beginning at 2pm on both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, doors open at noon for the shows beginning at 1pm.
-
Is reentry allowed?
Yes, festival attendees will be allowed to come and go from the event. Please note that you must have your wristband scanned prior to leaving the festival for reentry the same day.
-
Are there any prohibited items?
The festival, like most, does not allow weapons or fireworks, glass, video cameras, cameras with detachable lenses, pets, oversized backpacks, drugs, or drug paraphernalia. SnowBall also prohibits laser pointers, chain wallets, instruments, water guns, tents, umbrellas, flyers, and any form of personal transportation ‐ skateboards, bikes, snowboards, skis, and snowshoes.
-
Can I bring outside food and/or drink?
Outside food and drink are not allowed, with the exception of factory sealed water bottles.
-
Will there be food sold at the event?
Food can be purchased from vendors spread out within the festival grounds. There will also be a selection of vegetarian and vegan options offered.
-
Will there be alcohol sold at the event?
Alcohol can be purchased from bars at the festival. Since the festival is an all ages event, make sure you bring proof of age with you if you plan on drinking.
-
What do I need to know about money?
There’s no guarantee that the vendors, bars, or merchandise tents will accept credit cards, so make sure to bring cash. ATMs are located around the festival area.
-
What will the weather be like?
The weather will be snowy and cold. Temperatures during the day are generally in the low 40°F range (5°C) and can go as low as 15°F (-9°C) at night.
-
What should I wear?
Make sure you are equipped with warm jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, and snow boots that hold up against the cold outdoor temperatures. Since it gets warmer in the tents, it’s a good idea to bring a layer that can be easily removed and stored in a small backpack.
-
What should I bring?
Bring a factory sealed water bottle or an empty one for refilling, as well as a small backpack to store layers. If you drive to the event, you can always keep extra layers in your car if you don’t mind missing some acts to hike back to the parking lot.
-
Anything else I need to know?
Snow Ball offers a VIP option that includes access to VIP-only areas, express entrance lines, a full bar, a preferred viewing area of the Main Stage, and nicer private bathrooms. Or, if you have 7 friends who can scrape together $100,000, you can opt for the Double Black Diamond Snow Ball Experience. This pricey package provides private air, a 6-night stay in a Beaver Creek home, lift tickets for Vail and Beaver Creek Ski resorts, snowmobiling and dog sledding, spa treatments and fitness center access, as well as exclusive passes to SnowBall. These passes grant access to backstage and artist lounge areas, VIP viewing areas, an open bar, and all SnowBall after parties.
Once the shows end each night, check out the afterparties and late-night events held at local venues. These events are 21+, and generally charge a cover of about $10-$20.

Sleep
The small town of Avon doesn’t have many accommodation options aside from chain hotels such as the Comfort Inn, but the better-known surrounding towns of Vail and Beaver Creek have extensive lists to choose from, and are only a short distance from the festival grounds. The options vary in price, depending on what your intentions are in Colorado. Ski-in/ski-out accommodations are obviously abundant, but cheaper options are available to those willing to forgo the snow lodge atmosphere. The

The Christie Lodge is a great choice for those wanting to avoid the pricey luxury ski lodges ubiquitous to the tourist-filled area. Its significantly lower price range should not be taken as a sign of poor quality; the hotel still offers great service, amenities, and a convenient location for both hitting the slopes and the dance floor. The lodge offers one or three bedroom condominium options, which can accommodate 4 or 8 guests, respectively, with fireplaces and full kitchens. The hotel also offers on-site ski rentals and a shuttle to Avon, where the festival is located.
