Outlook 2012

Outlook stands alone as Europe's leading bass music and soundsytsem culture festival. During this one-of-a-kind, four-day event, festivalgoers spend their days partying on the sun-soaked beaches and fun-filled boats. As the sun sets, the festival's featured artists turn up the bass for an all-night rave, held in Fort Punta Christo, an abandoned 19th century fort along the coast of Croatia. Over the years, Outlook has drawn the biggest names in bass music, dancehall, drum & bass, dubstep, garage, hip-hop, electronica, and grime.

How do I get to and from the festival?
The Pula airport is the closest airport to the festival site, and is approximately 20 minutes away. Ryanair, Croatia Airlines, and Thomsonfly provide cheap options from the UK; a number of additional airlines service Pula airport from other European cities.
Outlook offers airport shuttle services from the 6 closest airports to the festival site, which must be booked before August 17. To book your transfer shuttle before they sell out click here. If you forgot to plan ahead, fret not, you can catch a transfer from the airport to Pula's main bus station, then take a bus to the festival site. Look for busses headed to Fanzana and Puntizela, which stop right outside the campsite. Check either Autotrans or Autobusnikolodvor for full routes and schedules.
You can also drive to Outlook, and park at the campsite free of charge. There is only one festival parking area, and it is only a short walk to the entrance. To rent a car within Croatia you must be 21 years of age or older, with a valid drivers license; an international license is not necessary.
If you opt for accommodation that is not associated with the festival, you can get to and from the festival site via public transport, -
How do I get around during the event?
Everything within the festival grounds, including the beach, boat parties, campsite, and stages, are within walking distance. Keep in mind that Fort Punta Christo has a difficult and uneven terrain, thus closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers, are a must – not just for the sake of your feet, but because you will not make it past security wearing sandals or flip flops.
-
What time does it start and end?
The Festival site is open every day of the festival from 8pm, when the first artists hit the stage, to 6am. For campers, the campsite is open from 10am Saturday, August 25, until noon on Wednesday, September 5. But campsite registration is only open from 10am-10pm each day. Festivalgoers, including campers, must collect their festival wristbands from the Exchange, which is open from 10am-10pm Wednesday, August 29, and Saturday, September 1, and from 10am-midnight Thursday and Friday.
-
Are there any prohibited items?
Professional cameras, audio/video recording devices, weapons, and pets are prohibited in the festival. While food and drink are allowed in the campsite area, anything glass will be confiscated upon arrival.
Due to the historically significant location of the festival, the possession of spray cans is taken very seriously and will result in immediate removal from the festival and the revocation of your wristband.
Drugs and illegal substances are also taken very seriously - both by festival security and local police - due to Croatia’s strict drug laws, which do not distinguish between different types or amounts of illicit substances. -
Can I bring outside food and/or drink?
You are not allowed to bring outside food or drink within the festival site, including water bottles. However, you can bring both into the festival campsite, if this is where you are residing.
-
Will there be food sold at the event?
Food will be sold at the event, and with options like burrito bars, pizza shacks, and chicken grills, it is obvious Outlook provides more than just traditional festival fare. There is also a supermarket located at the festival campsite.
-
Will there be alcohol sold at the event?
Outlook will supply alcohol for purchase at the event.
-
What do I need to know about money?
Multiple token stations will be set up around the site, where you can exchange your Kuna for tokens, for use at the bars and other stalls.
Credit cards are not accepted within the festival so it is prudent to both take out money from ATMs before entering the festival and to exchange foreign currency, including the euro, into the local Kuna – the only currency accepted in Outlook.
There are no ATMs within the festival site itself, however there is one located within the campsite that can be accessed with a festival wristband, whether you are camping or not, before 8pm. There are additional ATMs located in the local villages and nearby Pula. -
What will the weather be like?
You should expect warm and sunny days with cooler comfortable nights during the festival for the temperature in Pula during Outlook averages a high of 27°C (80°F) and a low of 16°C (60°F).
-
What should I wear?
Closed-toe shoes are a must at Outlook - the terrain is rough and uneven, and you will not be allowed into the festival wearing flip flops or sandals. Summer clothes and a bathing suit are ideal for the sun-filled days. Your daytime apparel will probably be sufficient for the nighttime festival shows as well, since all the dancing is sure to keep your temperature up. However, you should pack a light layer for nighttime once you stop dancing and start recovering.
-
What should I bring?
Make sure to pack your passport, which is typically the only acceptable form of identification in Croatia. However, we suggest also bringing an additional form of identification, such as a drivers license or proof of age card, to have on you since passports often have to be given up at the campsite or hotels. In addition to identification, you must bring your paper ticket or the email confirmations from leedstickets to check in and receive your festival wristband.
You'll need sunscreen during the day and insect repellent at night. It may also be handy to bring a towel, both for beach use and for showering – these are not always provided, even in the private apartments. If you are camping, bring a flashlight, sleeping bag, pillow, and, of course, a tent. In addition to the standard camping gear, make sure to pack these essential items for low-maintenance grooming while camping. The campsites are conveniently equipped with electrical points so you can charge your phone and stay in contact with your friends throughout the weekend. -
Anything else I need to know?
Outlook is an 18+ event, and identification will be checked upon arrival. Minors can attend if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian - a friend who is over 18 won't cut it. Since the actual festival shows do not start until nighttime, if you want to party at Outlook during the day, it is advised that you purchase tickets for the boat parties in advance. These parties leave the docks at alternating times each day and feature DJs and artists as well as fully stocked bars. These parties sell out quickly, so don't delay. More details on the Boat Parties will be posted under Outlook Event Listings once they are announced by the festival in April or May.

Eat
Outlook provides food tents and stalls within the festival grounds, and there is a supermarket, café, bistro, and restaurant located within the campsite. These options make it almost unnecessary for festivalgoers to venture elsewhere for their meals, especially for those that are camping and without a car. However, if your accommodations are further away from the festival site, or if you are exploring the surrounding areas, trying restaurants outside of Outlook can be a great way to experience the local culture and cuisine. The Istrian Peninsula, also known as Istra, is known for its blend of Italian, Mediterranean, and Croatian cuisines, with rare fresh truffles, seafood along the coast, ad great local wines.
-
A La Carte Restoran
- Camp Puntizela
- Pula, Croatia 52100
Bet you didn't think you'd find a restaurant adjacent to the festival campsite, but as one of the restaurants located within Camp Puntizela at Outlook, A La Carte Restoran is just that. The region's proximity to their pizza-loving neighbors in Italy helps this restaurant to hold its own as an authentic pizzeria.
-
Vodnjanka
- Vitezica 4 City Centre
- Pula, Croatia 52100
- +38 52 210 655
Locals may love this restaurant for its home-style cooking, but visitors rave about the view of the water and the traditional Istrian meals. Their no-frills menu is small and reasonably priced, with many of the dishes featuring fresh seafood and seasonal vegetables.
-

This well-established technique makes the meat soft and flavorful.

The staple dishes are seafood-oriented and cooked with a Mediterranean flare. Their delicious dishes, unique location, and beautiful views are in high demand, so we suggest making a reservation if you are planning to make the just under one hour drive to Porec from the Outlook Festival site.
-
Trattoria Dream
- Joakima Rakovca 18
- 52210 Rovinj, Croatia
- +385 52 830 203
Situated away from the bustling Rovinj quay, Dream offers a comfortable atmosphere with an indoor fireplace and candlelit outdoor tables channeling an old fashioned Italian trattoria. Voted one of Croatia's top 100 eateries in 2007 and 2008, this highly recommended and surprisingly reasonably-priced restaurant features dishes with both Tuscan and Istrian influences.
Sleep
Camp Puntizela, the campsite located directly next to the Outlook festival grounds, is taken over each year by festivalgoers who want to be at the heart of the excitement. While this is the cheapest and closest option to the festival, there are a number of alternative accommodation options for you to consider if the camping tickets have already sold out, or if you'd rather get a break from the madness with a quieter place to sleep. You can choose from private apartments, holiday villages, and hostels that vary in distance from the festival and amenities. They can all be reached by using the festival's shuttle service, public transportation, or by calling a taxi.
-
On-site Camping: Tent Camping
- Camp Puntizela
- 52100 Pula, Croatia
- +385 52 517 490
- www.puntizela.hr
Unlike most festival camping areas, this campsite is active all year round, which means it can offer more than a makeshift camping ground in a large field. Camp Puntizela provides a slightly more luxurious experience with hot water, real bathrooms, laundry rooms, electric points, Internet, restaurants, and a supermarket. Each group will be allotted a designated plot and must bring their own camping equipment or rent a tent upon arrival. In addition to standard camping gear, make sure to pack these essential items for low-maintenance grooming while camping. Unless you own a camper van and have purchased the corresponding camping ticket, cars must be parked in the adjacent car park, not next to your tent.
Camping during the festival is £9 per person, per night, and a minimum stay of four nights is required. To guarantee entry, you must arrive and register between 10am-10pm between Saturday, August 25, and Saturday, September 1. Campers must be out of the campsite by noon on Wednesday, September 5, unless you are also attending Dimensions Festival.
-
On-site Camping: Camper Van Camping
- Camp Puntizela
- 52100 Pula, Croatia
- +385 52 517 490
- www.puntizela.hr
If you are planning on camping with a camper van, you must purchase a normal camping ticket in addition to a camper van pass for £50, plus a booking fee. Camper Van Passes can be purchased HERE. If you are staying for Dimensions festival, you must purchase a separate Dimensions Camper Van Pass.
-
Outlook Accommodations: Hostels
- Camp Puntizela
- 52100 Pula, Croatia
Outlook offers a hostel accommodation option by the campsite for festivalgoers who want to remain close to the festival fun, without having to sleep in a tent. Booking a hostel bed is £16 per person, per night, and requires a minimum stay of six nights. As with the campsite and camper vans, registration for hostels is open 10am-10pm between Saturday, August 25, and Saturday, September 1. You must vacate the hostel by noon on Wednesday, September 5.
-
Outlook Accommodation: Private Apartments
- 52100 Pula, Croatia
The price per person, per night, of the private apartments, houses, and villas is £25. You can book your private accommodation for as long as you like, for both before and after the festival, but, again, registration is only open from 10am-10pm.
When booking, keep in mind a "private home" has a live-in landlord, while a "guest house" is a property with no landlord present. Cancellations are allowed until noon on June 30.
Shop
While the major towns and villages across the Istrian peninsula offer a wide array of stores, don't expect to find large malls or brand name boutiques. Instead, you can expect great local handmade crafts, art, jewelry, and local goods such as wine, truffles, lavender, and olive oil, which have made the region famous. In addition, most of the villages have open-air markets, where vendors sell fresh produce and handcrafted souvenirs. These are usually open daily during the summer months unlike those in other countries that are weekend activities. In Pula, the capital of the region and only a twenty minute drive from Outlook festival, many of the stores, cafes, gift shops, and markets are located around the Roman Amphitheater and Sergijevaca Street, so ask someone to point you in either of those directions.
-

-
City Farmers Market
- Narodni Trg 9
- 52100 Pula, Croatia
- +385 52 218 122
This daily market is overstocked with fresh produce from the surrounding local farms, and has an indoor region where locally caught fish can be purchased. In addition, there are newsstands, café, and souvenir stands spread throughout the market. Most stalls won't provide you with a bag, so make sure to bring your own. Bring cash, as most stalls don't accept credit cards.
-
Porec Markets
- Decumanus
- 52440 Porec, Croatia
- +385 52 431 979
Porec has two main markets, both of which are open daily. The first is a food market located by the town's large car park. This market is separated into two sections - the original part open from 7am to 2pm and the more recently added green tunnel open 24/7 or until the last stall-holder decides to close for the night. The other market in Porec is more directed towards tourists with vendors selling handmade crafts and souvenirs by the sea.
-
Art Studio
- Grisia 48
- 52210 Rovinj, Croatia
Many artists and craft makers come to Rovinj to spend their summer months, making it a sort of artists' retreat. One such artist is Radovan Sredic, a documentary filmmaker and jewelry maker from Zagreb, who spends his summers here making and selling his jewelry. Using rare natural materials primarily from Asia, his jewelry is worth a trip to his little studio store.
Party
Outlook keeps the party going each day and night of the festival, with beachside bars and boat parties during the day, and artists and DJs creating a rave atmosphere throughout the Fort Punta Christo ruins at night. But for the days leading up to the festival or immediately following, many of the surrounding cities and villages, especially those along the coast, have burgeoning nightlife scenes worth checking out. Pula is the nearest large city, and has an ample selection of lounges and bars, as well as dozens of clubs and discos, most of which are located around the city on the outskirts of the downtown area rather than within the downtown district itself.

The Istrian Peninsula, alternatively known as Istra, is located in the western coastal region of Croatia. This area draws visitors with its scenic green hills and valleys, its beach-lined coast of fishing villages and islands, and its historical and cultural heritage.
