Firefly Music Festival 2012

Picture this: It's a warm summer night in Delaware and you're watching one of your favorite bands from an aerial view, floating above the crowd in a hot air balloon, suspended in the sky above a sea of people. Back on the ground, you return to a lush wooded area and join a crowd to enjoy performances by Jack White, The Killers, and The Black Keys while fireflies and colorful hot air balloons hang above you in the sky.
Firefly is the newest three-day summer music festival that will feature musical performances by some of the biggest rock, pop, and indie acts across four stages. The first ever Firefly Music Festival is scheduled to be held in Dover, Delaware, in an 87-acre festival ground surrounded by lush forest known as The Woodlands. In addition to showcasing over forty of the biggest performers in music today, the festival will offer top-notch food and drinks and a myriad of art and attractions including hot air balloon rides, a vintage video game arcade, and interactive art installments. With an emphasis on social responsibility and green living, the festival will employ several environmentally conscious practices and community enhancement efforts. When the music ends each night the party will move down the road to the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino where Firefly after-parties and casino games will provide endless entertainment until the festival begins again the next day.

How do I get to and from the festival?
The festival site is in an easily accessible area located only a short journey away from several major East Coast cities. There are three airports within 70 miles of Dover: the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY), the Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI), both in Maryland, and the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). You can take a bus, train, or car service from any of these airports into Dover.
Greyhound busses service all major U.S. cities and will take you straight to Dover. You can also take AABus, a regional charter bus that services NYC, Baltimore, Wilmington, Albany, Norfolk, Smyrna and Dover. Wilmington Amtrak Station is the closest private passenger rail station to Dover. Amtrak has frequent services to Willmington from Trenton, Philadelphia and other surrounding areas. Once you arrive at Willmington, you will be able to take a Greyhound line to Dover.
Festivalgoers are also welcome to drive to the festival and park at the Dover International Speedway. Dover is less than a two hour drive from Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Baltimore and less than three hours from New York City and Richmond (without traffic of course). Firefly Music Festival provides driving directions to Dover from several East Coast cities.
Firefly will also be providing shuttle services to the festival from several surrounding cities. As of now, no details have been provided but we'll keep you updated as soon as any information becomes available. -
How do I get around during the event?
Everything within the festival grounds is within walking distance of each other. However, those looking for an adventure can also opt to ride in a hot air balloon! More information about hot air balloon rides will be available in the coming weeks.
-
What time does it start and end?
Festival gates will open at 2pm Friday, July 20, and at 11am Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22. The Campsite will open Friday morning for you to set-up camp before the performers begin in the afternoon.
-
Is reentry allowed?
Firefly festival allows guests with three-day festival passes to come and go as they please. Just don't try to take off your wristband once the staff has put it on. If your wristband is not secured around your wrist, or if there are signs of tampering, the festival security will not allow you in. There is no reentry for cars or RVs into the camping area once they are parked. If you decide to leave your campsite in your vehicle, there will be no reentry.
-
Are there any prohibited items?
The usual suspects: Drugs, weapons, explosives, other dangerous items, and professional recording equipment are all prohibited from entering the festival. Instruments, noisemakers, and anything else that could be disruptive to other guests will also not be permitted. In addition to these items, the festival asks guests not to bring pets, umbrellas, coolers, or outside food and beverages within the festival site. Smoking, campfires, and flammable lanterns are prohibited in the camping area, so there's no need for matches, lighters, lighter fluid, or any similar items.
-
Can I bring outside food/drink?
Except in the camping area, Firefly festival does not allow outside food and drink. However all attendees are encouraged to bring an empty reusable water bottle. This will help you stay hydrated, save money, and help reduce the amount of trash at the festival. Campers can keep their own food, drinks, and alcohol in their tents, but may not bring glass containers or kegs of beer.
-
Will there be food sold at the event?
Firefly will feature at least four unique pop-up restaurants, each with its own distinct concept and menu. Festivalgoers will have plenty of vegetarian and vegan options and will able to enhance their dining experience with top-quality wine and beer pairings.
-
Will there be alcohol sold at the event?
Firefly will have on-site brewery and an on-site wine bar on the festival grounds. At The Brewery, festivalgoers will be able to choose from a wide selection of locally brewed beer options. In addition to providing top-quality libations, The Vineyard and The Brewery will offer relaxing, air-conditioned settings where festivalgoers will be able to sit, recuperate, and enjoy their beverages.
-
What do I need to know about money
In addition to a debit or credit card, all festivalgoers should plan on bringing a fair amount of cash for the weekend. More information about on-site purchases and ATM offerings will be posted on the festival's FAQ section soon.
-
What will the weather be like?
Delaware's climate is in between subtropical and continental. Summer days are typically hot and humid, but the weather can be fairly unpredictable - many days are clear and sunny while others are muggy and rainy. Temperature highs for Dover in July average 87°F (31°C) and 68°F (20°C) is the average low.
-
What should I wear?
You should wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and cool, unrestrictive, summer clothes with a light wrap, windbreaker, or rain jacket in case of rain or a chilly breeze after sunset. Check the forecast and if there is a chance of rain, wear a poncho or light rain jacket, but do not bring an umbrella - the festival has placed umbrellas on its prohibited items list.
-
What should I bring?
In order to get into the festival you must bring your wristband, a government issued photo ID, and a credit or debit card. The festival also recommends bringing cash, sunscreen, bug spray, and an empty reusable water bottle. If you're the type that likes to settle down and chill in one place at festivals, you may also want to bring a blanket to sit on while you enjoy the music. Campers should bring all their basic camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats etc.) as well as these essential items for low-maintenance grooming while camping.
-
Anything else I need to know?
Although Firefly is an all-ages event, attendees under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times both while camping and within the campsite.
