Capitol Hill Block Party 2015

Capitol Hill Block Party 2013 by Jim Bennett via the festival

The Capitol Hill Block Party effortlessly combines independent music and culture, thought, and progressive politics in the heart of Seattle - and they've done so since 1997. The annual three-day event features over 100 artists on 6 stages as well as independent craft booths, food trucks, local non-profits, and pro-music politicians both to raise money for The Vera Project and KEXP and to provide fans with a fun-filled street dance party.

Unlike many festivals that have been expanding monumentally in recent years (i.e. Coachella's two weekend expansion and overall ticket price increases), The Capitol Hill Block Party has no intention of expanding in size or increasing in price - just in new elements. The size of the festival grounds limits attendees to 10,000 per day, but, while avoiding adding to the number of festivalgoers, organizers have added a short-film contest, visual-arts programming, and Sunday-morning family programming and performance to the music lineup already overflowing with talent. -- Laura Baker-Finch
