SXSW 2015

You won't go hungry during SXSW - whether you aim to hit all the events offering free food, grab a meal from a food truck, or sit down at one of Austin's best restaurants. Here's a list of our favorites.

  • Chi'Lantro Food Truck

Hands down the best tacos I had while in Austin and have I mentioned the Kimchi Fries yet? This roving restaurant serves up Korean + Mexican fusion that includes tacos, rice bowls, burritos, Seoul Burritos, Quesadillas, Korean Burgers, and the aforementioned fries. Vegetarian friendly (we recommend the tofu tacos) but equally as mouth-watering for meateaters. The truck tends to hang near the action during SXSW, but check the website schedule for exact locations.

  • Roaring Fork

Roaring Fork serves classic Texan cuisine with a high-end culinary twist. We'll shamefully admit to eating there almost every day during SXSW 2012 -- the food really is that good, and you can't beat the location. The Kettle of Green Chili Pork and the Fondue Pot with Lamb Chops are outstanding; if you're looking for something on the lighter side, try the Shrimp and Avocado Salad. During lunch, the "Texas Two Step" is a great deal -- $13 for a soup or salad and an entree.

  • Bar Louie

Centrally located, but slightly removed from the shitshow known as 6th Street, Bar Louie is a great place to take a breather. Their extensive menu is bound to please even the pickiest eaters. Get a few appetizers to share, and be sure to try one of the flatbreads (warning: they're HUGE). If you're looking to imbibe, Bar Louie's drink menu won't disappoint. Try the Hibiscus Margarita or drop in for happy hour for $3 drafts, $4 glasses of wine, $5 specialty martinis, and 50% off select appetizers (Monday-Friday 4-7 PM).

  • Uchi

    • 801 South Lamar Boulevard
    • Austin, TX 78704
    • +1 (512) 916-4808

At Uchi, Chef Tyson Cole (James Beard Best Chef Southwest 2001) serves contemporary Japanese cuisine and sushi. The restaurant has some of the freshest sushi and sashimi in Austin, as well as playful modern Japanese dishes, such as Tempura Japanese Pumpkin.

  • Perla's Seafood & Oyster Bar

The atmosphere at Perla's is as much of a draw as the food. Enjoy a huge selection of fresh and delectable seafood on the patio with a glass of wine or beer, and you're good to go. The waiters know their oysters, the bartenders deliver quality drinks, and did we mention the aquarium in the center of the restaurant?

  • Torchy's Tacos

Torchy's Tacos serves up inventive and delicious tacos at great prices. With a range of fillings that include fried avocado, scrambled eggs, jerk chicken, and jalapeño sausage, you'll leave this famed food truck thanking the taco gods.

  • Mighty Cone

The Mighty Cone is another legendary food truck in Austin. Try the tortilla cone filled with chicken and deep fried avocado, and top it off with their chili dusted french fries.
