SXSW 2015

Shop

Shopping isn't of the highest priority during SXSW; there's barely time to sleep, let alone shop. That being said, there are a number of notable shops to stop in if you find the time, from record stores to thrift shops.

  • Waterloo Records

Waterloo Records is where you can take home part of the "Live Music Capital of the World." The record store not only stocks an impressive collection through its shelves, but frequently hosts free in store performances. During SXSW, these performances are on an even grander scale, taking over the record shop's parking lot.

  • Friends of Sound

Anyone who sells rare and collectible vinyl for as little as 99¢ is a friend indeed. Get your music fix at the turntable listening corner, sell/trade your own records, or leave with some classic LPs that you can keep for a lifetime. The record store has a great atmosphere, helpful employees, and may even host an event or two during SXSW.

  • PRIZE

PRIZE is the go-to spot for unique gifts and jewelry in Austin. They have a little something for everyone - women, men, kids, and even pets. Whether you are looking for home décor items such as candles, coffee table books, picture frames, or an interior design service or some personal adornment in the form of necklaces, handbags, hats, or belts, PRIZE is worth the visit.

  • Heritage Boot

If you want to take home an authentic Texan souvenir, then head to Heritage Boot and pick up a pair of handmade boots. Using exotic leathers like sharkskin and ostrich, Jerome Ryan and his team fashion boots using vintage patterns, paying careful attention to detail. A pair of boots will set you back at least $300, but they're instant collectors items.

  • Feathers Boutique

Elite vintage finds for women and men, with a collection that features the likes of Jeffrey Campbell and Dolce Vita. Everything in the store is organized by color, making it easy for you coordinate the perfect outfit. In addition to clothing, the Austin favorite also carries a selection of jewelry and accessories, all at reasonable prices.

  • Uncommon Objects

The eccentric store is as strange and exciting as the city it inhabits, with quirky and memorable finds that include a duck decoy and antique beaver top hat. Search through what the founders call a "one-of-a-kind emporium of transcendent junk," and leave with a treasure.

  • Domy Books

Domy Books has a fascinating collection of books, periodicals, and products, with a focus on contemporary art. The store hosts a variety of events and exhibitions, as well as a monthly book club.
